WELLCOSA recognise organisations and company’s as they become role-models for wellness in the workplace. You will be comparing the state of your organisation’s “wellness” to internationally benchmarked standards, reflecting the practices of organisations that have achieved the WELLCOSA’s Healthier Workplace Initiative (HWI) recognition.
Your company will receive recognition under the HWI initiative at the completion of the benchmarking process and will become part of a national prestigious network of recognised healthy workplaces in South Africa.
The award process is open to all companies, big or small, after their workplace wellness program has been benchmarked against international best practices.
The WELLCOSA HWI process is a learning process, not just a recognition process.
Step 1: Registration: This online registration signifies your company’s intent to pursue the HWI process. You’ll submit basic information regarding your workplace wellness program when you register.
Step 2: Payment: Secure online payment for the HWI process – the prices vary according to the size of the company. Once the registration invoice has been cleared, your workplace wellness program is officially registered for WELLBiz.
Step 3: Learn & Improve: After payment – you receive FREE access to all our wellness resources. This will help you to increase your knowledge on how to build and implement successful results-oriented wellness programs.
Step 4: Recognition Application: Once you have paid for the HWI process, you can continue with the online application form for the prestigious WELLCOSA HWI recognition.
Step 5: On-Site Verification: If necessary – a site visit by a WELLCOSA Auditor to verify submitted documentation and conducting of interviews might be necessary.
Step 6: Results & Recognition: Part of the certification results is a comprehensive report with scores and recommendation to enhance your wellness program. Your company will gain national and international recognition through our HWI Awards program in the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Small Business Categories.
Step 7: Re-Apply: Certification is valid for 2 year to ensure your company keeps up to date with international workplace wellness standards. You need to apply in order to improve or maintain your company’s workplace wellness status.

Yes, the deadlines for submission is end of August of each year. Applications are accepted any time of the year. The Awards ceremony takes place during October of each year. Applications received after August, will be part of the next year’s award ceremony.
The Healthier Workplace Initiative (HWI) recognition documentation must represent a 12-month program cycle that has been completed. This includes data collection, operating plan (including budget), interventions and evaluation. Data collection from a previous cycle is acceptable if it is still valid and relevant to current programming decisions.

If your wellness program is implemented uniformly among all sites, you may be able to include all of them in your application. This means that data collection, evaluation, and program access is consistent among all sites. If your program is not consistent, you should include only the site(s) for which all parts of the program documentation apply. Before making this decision, contact a WELLCOSA representative at email@example.com to discuss the most appropriate way to handle this circumstance.
Your Well Workplace designation remains current for two (2) years. If you wish to renew or upgrade your designation level, you must complete and document a full 12-month programming cycle before reapplying.
By submitting a HWI Recognition Application, your company;s information is treated as confidential. WELLCOSA will not disseminate and publish exemplary operating plans, vision statements, job descriptions, team minutes, and similar documents, without the consent of the company
The national review process will take up to four to six (4-6) weeks. You will be notified in writing of the application review outcome when this process is completed. If your application meets all requirements, you will receive a notification letter and scores in each benchmark. Carefully consider your scores and refer to the responses you made to each question. To attain a higher level in the HWI recognition, you should attempt to be the best in every aspect of each of the bench-marking criteria.
